Simultaneous Display - WFM Sarah Hegarty

posted 9 Feb 2014, 12:55 by Andrew Zigmond
Harrogate Chess Club were pleased to welcome the current British Ladies champion Sarah Hegarty for this year's simultaneous display. Sarah follows in the footsteps of Keith Arkell, Danny Gormally, Thomas Eggleston, Aaron Summerscale and Daniel King as a guest at Harrogate.

She faced eighteen players and scored a highly respectable 15 1/2 points, suffering defeats at the hands of A Team Captain Mark Daley (her highest rated opponent) and Tony Bills who hasn't been involved in active chess for some years. A draw was achieved by Graeme Hall of Cumbria and mention should go to Club Chairman Charlie Callis who was the last to finish. Running Charlie a close second was Alex Edwards who deservedly won the prize for best junior. Other best game prizes (judged by Sarah) went to Secretary Andrew Zigmond and Lee Crawford of Ilkley.

It should be noted that Sarah defeated giant killer Steve Revell.

Finally credit must go to Richard White who gives up a lot of his time to make these events happen.
