The Harrogate Junior Chess Club celebrated its first anniversary on Wednesday 21st September with the Deputy Mayor of Harrogate as a special guest. Also present was the President of the Oatlands WMC where the club meets. The wider Harrogate chess community was represented by Andrew Zigmond (Chairman of Harrogate Chess Club and also a support coach at the HJCC) and Mick Stokes (Chairman of the Harrogate & District Primary Schools Chess Association).

During the evening several of the children were recognised for their achievements over the past year and full details can be found on their website.

Writing personally, it has been a pleasure to work with Mrs Sutcliffe over the past year. The HJCC is setting the standard not just locally but across the county and even nationally and I am sure there will be many more successes to come.
