Harrogate vs Louth, National Club Championship

posted 17 Jan 2013, 06:06 by Andrew Zigmond
Harrogate made their debut in the national club championship on Sunday 13th January, facing opponents from Louth although the match was played at neutral venue in Thorne.

The first game to finish was Chris Watt's game on board 4; Chris appeared to be better but analysis after showed that the ending was a theoretical draw. Captain Andrew Zigmond got shot down after a tactical inaccuracy in a complex position, putting Louth in the driving seat. When Margaret Rowley also lost the match was over although Stuart Johnson spared Harrogate's blushes by winning a long endgame after mistakes by both sides.

Harrogate and Louth must now both play matches against Syston and the winner from the pool will contest a final against a team from the South of England.

1 Stuart Johnson 1-0 Charles Ayton
2 Andrew Zigmond 0-1 John Grasham
3 Margaret Rowley 0-1 Adam Wardlow
4 Chris Watt 1/2-1/2 Cameron Marnoch
