Congress success for Harrogate players

posted 10 Mar 2015, 16:22 by Andrew Zigmond
Brian Coop performed with distinction at Doncaster Congress, defeating three higher rated players and drawing with another. His own loss was to Chris Izod graded 191 and that went down almost to the final pawn. Ranyl Hughes, David Teague, Mate Ther and Andrew Zigmond ensured Harrogate were well represented at the South Yorkshire event.

At Blackpool a week later Matthew Webb of Bradford Chess Club (but currently living and working in Harrogate) created a sensation by sharing first prize in the Open with GM Keith Arkell. I also believe Mate Ther won a junior prize in his section - more details to follow hopefully!
