Club dinner

posted 28 May 2012, 06:00 by Andrew Zigmond
The 2012 club dinner took place at Zizzis restaurant in Harrogate with 28 members and guests in attendance, possibly a record turnout. This was the first club dinner in almost a quarter of a century not to have been organised and hosted by Richard & Sue Tate. It was an appropriate moment to honour Richard's 23 years as secretary and a presentation was made to Richard and Sue.

The entertainment consisted of club president Margaret Rowley reading a poem commemorating Steve Revell's simul victory against Danny Gormally (Steve of course did not stop there - watch this space) and Jack Duckworth then joined Margaret in a rendition of I Remember It Well with newly composed chess related lyrics.

All in all it was a very pleasant night that didn't just allow the chess players to get to know each other better, but also their partners and friends. Final thanks must go to John Link who arranged the booking and made the arrangements with the restaurant.
