WHERE TO PLAY CHESS IN HARROGATE?
There are three clubs locally, all catering for different age groups. JUNIORS - IF the right club is on the wrong night please feel free to get in touch. We are always keen to hear from new players and will do our best to help. However bear in mind that each club has a specific environment and culture that may not be ideal for older or younger players.
ADULTS: Our club nights are held on MONDAY at Apley Grange, 35 Oatlands Drive between 19.30 and 23.00. We hold several internal competitions throughout the season and new members are always welcome. For more information and directions please contact the club through the telephone no/ email above.
AGE 12-18 Harrogate Chess Club has opened a new club aimed specifically at secondary school pupils. Led by club chairman Andrew Zigmond and supported by committee member Richard White the club aims to coach the players of the future in a fun and relaxed environment that complements our adult club night and teams. This club meets at St Roberts Social Club in the town centre (near Waitrose) on THURSDAY between 18.30 and 20.00. Both Andrew and Richard are fully DBS checked to work with young people.
Year 6 pupils may be taken by arrangement.
AGE 11 AND UNDER Harrogate Junior Chess Club meets on WEDNESDAYS 17.00-18.30. The club was founded in late 2015 and is setting the standard across Yorkshire.
